Guardianships & Conservatorships

A guardian or conservator is chosen by the court when a person is no longer capable of managing their own affairs. This guardian or conservator may be given power to make decisions for the individual. A guardian looks after the personal needs of their ward. A conservator looks after the financial affairs of the protected person. To best protect your personal interests, you are encouraged to meet with an attorney to set up a health care directive, and arrange for a power of attorney. Guardians and conservators must act in the best interest of their ward or protected person, and follow their wishes as possible.

At SYK, we have worked on both sides. We handle cases dealing with protected persons – protecting them and their assets. Our lawyers pair with guardian protection services to see that each individual is taken care of, and their affairs are managed.
