Mediation & Arbitration
Many legal disputes these days are resolved via mediation or arbitration rather than traditional court litigation. Mediation is facilitated negotiation, whereby the parties to the dispute utilize the services of a mediator to help them resolve their dispute. The mediator does not render a decision and cannot force the parties to settle.
Arbitration is more similar to court litigation, but with a less formal setting. The arbitrator generally renders a binding and enforceable decision after the conclusion of an arbitration hearing. Mediation and arbitration are often faster and more economical than formal court proceedings.
The key to successful ADR is the skill of the professional who conducts it. Alan Spinrad often acts as a mediator and arbitrator. In addition to having extensive litigation experience, Alan has received significant structured training in mediation. He regularly mediates for the Oregon Court of Appeals and has been providing arbitration service for many years, both privately and through the Circuit Courts of the State of Oregon for Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties, and the Arbitration Service of Portland.
Alan provides services as a private mediator and arbitrator in the following areas: business, real estate and construction.
