SYK Seminar Series: Estate Planning for Parents and Grandparents

History is littered with stories about children and grandchildren losing the wealth they inherited.  It does not seem to matter whether your last name is Smith or Rockefeller: creditors, predators, family members and the beneficiary’s own demons can make an inheritance vanish.

This discussion will center on the different tools we can use to protect children and grandchildren’s interests, and to encourage these beneficiaries to be productive members of society. We’ll talk about some recent Oregon case law that affects beneficiaries’ rights, and will review different provisions that can be used to minimize the risk of claims against a beneficiary’s assets.
