I am pleased to tell you about two big changes for our firm in 2011.
First, we moved our offices to the 38th floor of the US Bancorp Tower, at 111 SW Fifth Avenue in downtown Portland. We are very excited about the move. The space is about one-third larger than our former space, which should provide for the growth that we expect in the months and years to come.
Our firm was located in Johns Landing for more than 30 years, and we certainly enjoyed our time at the scenic, riverside location. However, we are thrilled with our office’s return to downtown Portland, an area that has changed dramatically since the firm was last located there. The urban setting provides a dynamic environment for our clients, business associates and our growing firm.
Because the new office is easily accessible by public transit, the location supports our overall goals around sustainability and improved opportunities for “green” commuting. But don’t worry—we’ll happily validate parking if you drive over to see us! We’re also now closer to many of the clients and other professional service firms we currently work with on a regular basis — plus, we’re in the heart of a thriving retail and restaurant environment. All in all, we’re pleased to provide our clients an opportunity to enjoy more of the excitement that is downtown Portland.
I am also pleased to announce our second big change. Effective February 1, 2011, our firm name changed to Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP. This is a great change. Admittedly, our firm name has been a mouthful for quite some time and, frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the only people who consistently identified our firm by the entire name were my fellow partner, Steve Seymour, and me—for obvious reasons! The days of having all of the partners named in a law firm name are long gone. Our decision to streamline our name to Samuels Yoelin Kantor LLP honors the firm’s history of more than 80 years here in Portland, and it also reflects the names of the three longest serving partners of the firm.
We look forward to showing you around our new office. The move is simply one more way we are acting upon our commitment to develop and attract the most skilled, experienced and knowledgeable counsel to help our clients with all of their legal needs. We’ll let you know when we’re all settled in so you can visit us and help us celebrate our new home.
