Portland, OR., June 10, 2010 – Samuels Yoelin Kantor Seymour & Spinrad LLP announced that senior partner Merritt S. Yoelin is participating in his first Portland Rose Festival as an official Royal Rosarian. He was officially knighted in the organization’s traditional ceremony in April. The Royal Rosarians — a nonprofit, civic organization that is separate from the Portland Rose Festival Foundation — volunteer to serve as Portland’s official greeters and ambassadors. The organization’s foundation, the Royal Rosarians Foundation, has a mission of providing aid to at-risk children; providing scholarships for youth; and fostering community spirit.
Yoelin, who has been practicing law for more than 40 years, is an accomplished business, estate planning and tax attorney. A longtime volunteer in the community, Yoelin served as Board President of the Estate Planning Council of Portland, and helped it become the leading estate planning organization in the Pacific Northwest. He has also served as Treasurer of the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, and as President of Congregation Neveh Shalom. In addition, he is an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Portland and has served as its President.
“I’m very honored to have been selected to serve as a Royal Rosarian,” says Yoelin. “Having lived in Portland since 1966, I’ve been to many Rose Festival Parades, and I have long admired the Royal Rosarians and the level of service and support they provide for children as well as the overall community.”
As part of his duties as a Royal Rosarian, Yoelin will march alongside the bands and floats in the KeyBank Grand Floral Parade and will participate in several events throughout the year and during the Rose Festival. Royal Rosarians also welcome visiting dignitaries from around the world, host hundreds of out-of-town visitors, march in parades throughout the region, and perform ceremonial rose plantings in honor of noteworthy individuals in Portland and around the world.
